BIT, Mesra is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U.G.C. act 1986. It functions under the overall supervision, direction and control of a high power Board of Governors, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the U.G.C., the State Government, The Chancellor, the AICTE, The Hindustan Charity Trust and the Institute Faculty. Shri G.P. Birla is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. The Governor of the state of Jharkhand is the Chancellor of the Institute. The Technical Council decides the academic policy of the Institute.

Academic Programmes offered by BIT

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.): BIT Ranchi conducts 4-year B.E. programs in Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Production Engineering. Candidates are admitted based on their performance in AIEEE.

Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.): BIT Ranchi offers 5 year B.Arch program. Candidates are admitted based on their performance in AIEEE.

Bachelor of Pharmaceutical (B.Pharm.): The Institute offers 4-year B.Pharm program. Candidates are admitted based on their performance in AIEEE or AIPMT.

Master of Engineering (M.E.): BIT Ranchi offers 2-year M.E. programs in Automation Manufacturing System, Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering, Structural Engineering), Computer Aided Analysis & Design (CAAD), Electrical & Electronics (Control System, Power System), Electronics & Communication Engineering (Microwave Engineering, Instrumentation & Control), Mechanical Engineering (Heat Power, Design of Mechanical Equipment), Polymer Engineering, Quality Engineering Management, Space Engineering & Rocketry (Aerodynamics, Rocket Propulsion), and Software Engineering.

Master of Technology (M.Tech.): BIT Ranchi offers M.Tech. programs in Computer Science, Environment Science & Engineering, Fuels & Combustion, New Materials & Processing Technology, Remote Sensing, and Scientific Computing.

Important dates for online applications

BIT Selection Procedure: Online Entrance Test on May 2010 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida and Ranchi. Counselling in second week of June 2010. Provisional selections will be based on performance in the Test of candidates who have applied and fulfill the eligibility criteria, due consideration being given to choice(s) of Place for Study made in application form. All further notifications only on our website. No separate intimations will be sent to candidates.

Mode of admission: AIEEE

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a recognized Bachelor's degree (minimum 10+2+3), in any of following:
BCA
B.Sc in Comp Sc / Inf Tech / Electronics
B.Sc / B.A with Maths / Stats at graduate level.

Candidates of B.Sc / B.A Honours must have minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average in Honours subject. Other candidates must have minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average in graduation, computed as average of marks in ALL subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects).

Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average, computed as average of marks in ALL subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which appeared in Class 12 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average, computed as average of best 5 subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects).

Candidates graduating in 2010 can apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2010. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programs are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.
