OverviewsJIPMER traces its origin to 1823 when a medical school called "Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery" was established by French government. In November 1956 the Government of India took over the medical college in the wake of the ‘de facto’ transfer of Pondicherry. The college was upgraded as a Regional Centre and named as Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on 13th July 1964.
JIPMER campus is located in the western entrance of Pondicherry on the highway and spread over 195 acres of sloping land that is a hillock, known in vernacular as ‘Gorimedu’. The campus is self sufficient in many ways and contains well laid roads, green trees & plants apart from Post-Office, Bank, Shopping centre, Hostels, and Residential complex
JIPMER which includes a tertiary care referral hospital is under the direct administrative control of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Courses Offered
Undergraduate Courses: JIPMER offers M.B.B.S, B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory
Technology), and B.M.R.Sc (Bachelor of Medical Record Science). Admissions
to the courses are made on all India basis and strictly on the basis
of merit through entrance examinations. The entrance exam for the MBBS
course is conducted at Pondicherry, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Calcutta
and Tiruvananthapuram. The results are published within a week and the
selection is based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination.
For B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses, a common entrance examination is conducted
in the Institute.
Postgraduate Courses: Postgraduate courses offered by JIPMER are: M.D. (General Medicine), M.D. (Obstet & Gynaec.), M.D. (Pathology), M.D. (Microbiology), M.D. (Physiology), M.D. (Pharmacology), M.D. (Paediatrics), M.D. (Anaesthesiology), M.D. (Dermatology), M.D. (Biochemistry), M.D. (Community Medicine), M.D. (Psychiatry), M.D. (T.B. & R.D.), M.S. (General Surgery), M.S. (Ortho. Surgery), M.S. (Opthalmology), M.S. (Oto-Rhino-Laryngol.), M.S. (Anatomy), D.C.H., D. Ortho., D.O., and D. Lep.
Admission to MBBS course at JIPMER: Admission to the MBBS course at
JIPMER is done through an entrance examination conducted every year.
JIPMER MBBS Entrance Test 2010: In 2010 the JIPMER MBBS entrance test will be held on 27th may 2007 from 10 a. to 12.30 pm.
Last date of submission of application forms: 28th March 2007
Along with the application forms candidates should also send a DD of Rs 350(Rs 250 for SC / ST candidates drawn from any nationalized bank in favor of the Accounts Officer, JIPMER, PUDUCHERRY payable at Puducherry.
The handicapped candidates should send their medical certificate and SC/ST candidates should send community certificate along with the DD and application form.
Eligibility
Eligibility for MBBS Entrance, JIPMER: Candidates who are appearing
in the 12th standard or have passed the examination with 50% marks in
PCB (40% for SC/ST candidates) are eligible to appear in the MBBS entrance
of Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical research and Training.
There are 75 seats for the MBBS course out of which 20 seats are reserved
for Pondicherry natives.
Entrance Test Pattern
The entrance test is based on Class 11 and 12 standards of CBSE /Higher
Secondary syllabus.
The question paper contains multiple choice questions of 200 marks on
subjects like, English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.
For each correct answer you get one mark and there is no negative marking
for the wrong answers.
Age Limits:
Not exceeding 45 years as on closing date. (The closing date shall be
reckoned from 30 days of the date of publication of the advertisement
in Employment News.
Application Form :
Requisition for supply of application form and prospectus by post should
reach
the Registrar (Academic) Jipmer, Pondicherry - 605006 on or before
11th March, 2010,
along with a Crossed Demand Draft, drawn in favour of ‘Accounts
Officer, Jipmer’, payable at Pondicherry and two slips (preferably
stickers) of candidates postal address of 2¢¢ × 3¢¢
size (to send the prospectus with application to the candidates). The
Bank Draft should be for Rs. 250/- for General candidates and Rs. 150/-
for Scheduled caste/Scheduled tribe candidates.
Please ensure that the Bank Draft bears the Code No. of the issuing Branch and Drawee Branch and date of issue as well as signatures of the Bank officials and the amount written both in figures and words. Prospectus will not be sent if demand draft is not acceptable to the bankers here.
For supply of prospectus and application form, cheque/Postal Order/Money Order will not be accepted. This institute will not be responsible for any postal delay in receipt of prospectus by the candidates and further correspondence, if any, will not be entertained. Candidates are advised to send their requisition in advance before the due date.
Application purchased under SC/ST quota cannot be used by the general candidates.
Prospectus and Application Form can also be obtained in person at the
Institute’s office on payment of Rs. 250/- (in respect of general
candidates) and Rs. 150/- (in respect of SC/ST candidates) in cash during
office hours till 25th March, 2004 (Thursday) on all working days.
